In late, 2005, Quantum came out with a new reel. A reel that was unheard of in shape and in material, but not in the name. In accordance to the top statement of this review, I can honestly say that Quantum created a reel that can be exactly described as a "space-ship" reel, or a reel that looks weird and funky. But anyways, those adjectives are positives, and not negatives, because the line-up of reels (Energy) Quantum redesigned are quite excellent in construction, and in performance.

Impressions:

I purchased the Energy E750PT reel for fishing plastics. Most notably for catching Bass. I chose the lowest gear ratio model simply for the slow fishing I would be doing and so far, it's been working like a charm. The main types of water the reel has seen has been solely on lakes in northern Illinois and northern Wisconsin.

This is a very attractive reel and is very comfortable to use due to its oversized handle knobs, and numerous settings on the ACS cast control system. I'm in awe of this reel and don't have much else to say about it. It's just good.

On the water uses (Casting, Retrieving, Drag System and Presentation)

Casting & Retrieving.

The '06 Energy fares exceptionally well when casting, though it tends to cast a bit too quick for an anglers likeness. However, the great casting capabilities are enhanced by the Infinite ACS cast control system which allows you to cast at many different settings and conditions. By turning the external ACS knob, anglers are allowed to tune the brake control settings ideal to their presentation, allowing maximum casting distance as well as optimum control for the baits being used. Despite the fast action casting, it is always smart to use the thumb to guide the reel.

The retrieve of the E750 is smooth like butter and powerful, giving the fish no chance of escaping after you set the hook.

Due to the lowest available gear ratio, I was only confined to working my baits slowly, which was my intention of purchasing this reel. With its slow 5.1:1 gear ratio, the reel makes crawling baits a pleasure and by working this reel for the past two months, my patience for fishing baits slowly is very good.

Drag System.

The drag is smooth as is the rest of the reel and when speaking of the drag system of this reel, it should not be an issue. However, one deficiency was noticed when playing the drag on a fish. There seems to be no setting in "medium" power. There is numerous loose settings on the drag as well as high settings. There seems to be nothing in-between. But other than that, this reel will easily handle Bass larger than 10lbs, if it ever happens.

Presentation.

The particular model I bought works mainly for working baits slowly. That's all I have used this reel for and it's a trooper.

Quantum Energy E750PTi Casting Reel - (0/5)

Construction & Quality: Reel has a solid, strong frame with many durable components, including its ceramic drag system as well as the scratch-resistant deposition coating. 5/5

Design (ergonomics): Although the reel has an increased weight due to an additional bearing and more components, the balance, when placed on a proper rod cannot be noticed. Many people consider this reel to be oversized. But if it catches you fish, why even care??!! 5/5

Presentation: An amazing reel for Bass fishing. This reel easily rivals any import or custom-made Japanese reel. Easily! Works best for fishing SLOW due to low gear ratio. 5/5

Price:  With the addition of more parts and better construction, this reel is still valued at under $200. What a steal! Best reel I've ever bought for the money. 5/5

Total Score - - - 5/ 5      A+++ Material.

Positive and Negative Thoughts

Positive

- Scratch-resistant coating

- Ceramic Drag will never burn out, nor fail

- Numerous casting settings

- Oversize handle knobs add comfort when fighting a fish

- It catches fish

- The price is right

Negative

- Weighs a bit more than other top of the line reels other brands make

- May cast a bit too fast, but this is one anglers personal opinion
