Impressions:
The Quantum
Accurist 500PT was a random off-season
purchase I made in early 2007. I had no
particular need for another baitcasting
reel for other than multi-purpose
applications. Since I had the
opportunity to get a new reel, this one
had to be it!
Compared to
Quantum's higher-end and better quality
Energy and Tour Edition PT baitcasting
reels, the Accurist is less flashy, but
sports a feature which is rare in many
reels these days: A flippin' switch. By
use of the flippin' switch, the angler
is able to easily flip and pitch baits
tight and close to cover, a tactic which
many baitcasting reels often are
incapable of supporting. Push the button
and go to work.

On the water uses (Casting,
Durability, and Presentation)
Casting & Retrieving.
Casting
your lures with the Accurist PT is a
pleasure. The reel features an external
ACS cast control system which adjusts
externally with a click of a dial. Up to
9-brakes can be used to match any
fishing situation, from a tight setting,
to free-spool. The ACS system allows the
angler to fish under any conditions
whether it's windy or calm, and enables
you to adapt to changes faster than any
other cast control system.
Compared to
other reels, casting for distance is a
bit sub-par. However, I was able to
notice that casting and disengaging the
spool required little to no effort at
all. Many times, regardless of
presentation, this is an added benefit
when casting requires no effort.
Smoothness
when reeling is what this reel should be
known for. This is attributed to the
polymer-hybrid bearing system, and the
oversized power handle, which is soft to
the touch.
Durability.
Not much
can be said in regard to this topic.
Like all reels, whether the reel still
performs and looks like brand new
depends upon the care given by the
angler.
I generally
take good care of my reels and to this
day, the reel still casts and reels like
new. Just keep in mind that the Accurist
does not feature a scratch-deposition
coating which nearly all other Quantum
reels feature.
Presentation.
As
previously stated, the Accurist PT is a
multi-purpose baitcasting reel. The reel
offers the angler numerous presentation
options which range from fishing in fast
to slow.
Fishing
fast and covering water is my forte' in
fishing. With the Accurist, I was able
to cover the shorelines with
spinnerbaits - in either in a fast or
slow retrieve. Another method I found to
be excellent was crankbait fishing for
deeper, suspended Bass. When fatigue
from hard, powerful casting sets in, the
effortless casting provided by this reel
will be a benefit.
In addition
to fishing fast comes fishing at a
slower pace, if you have the patience.
The flippin' switch enables you to work
tight structure with the push of a
button. Finally, crawling plastics along
the bottom is another option which works
well for this reel.

Quantum Tour Edition
Scoreboard - (0/5) |
Construction & Quality: About
average when compared to other reels.
Only complaint is the lack of a vacuum
scratch-deposition coating. However, the
reel is smooth, and features a unique
and underrated flippin' switch.
4/5
On The Water Uses: Excellent
multi-purpose fishing reel. It can be
fished fast or slow, or at whichever
speed you prefer. 5/5
Design (ergonomics):
Reel is easy to palm and to control.
Oversized power handle is soft to the
touch. 5/5
Presentation: Can
be used for just about every method of
fishing. Seems to be better-suited for
fishing spinnerbaits or crankbaits.
Also, a great reel for flippin' to tight
cover. 5/5
Price: As good as it gets for an
entry-level, and professional-made
reel. 5/5
