Well, the food was great. So was the turnout. I had an awesome time at the rodeo today. I want to thank the master Chefs today – Ed and John. Killer breakfast burrito in the am served by Ed, and probably the best damn burger I have ever eaten for lunch today prepared by John. Man… These two guys can fish with me anytime if we get a grill involved!!!
As for the fishing, it was actually a brutally slow day. I’ll save the commentary for Dan’s HD Video, due to release sometime in the near future.
Ice fishing for trout can provide some most excellent battles and some true beauties, but usually takes a good amount of effort to successfully land a fish and get a facebook worthy avatar snapshot.
In short, the trout right now are beginning to stage up for their annual spring river runs. The action should pick up as the ice thaws, and then its full out game on for fly fishing spring steelies! Best baits have been brown spawn sacs, suspended about a foot off of the bottom. The action has been very sporadic, and its been a challenge to dial down a truly successful pattern. Some moments, the fishing is incredible, but other times… just flat out slow.
Today was one of those brutally slow days.
Here are a few clips I took from my digital camera of some recent trout landed by the mafia. Trout fishing has its moments… Enjoy –
