my dad and I got an invite to go salmon fishing today, and of course we accepted.
With weather forcasts predicting 85% chance of thunderstorms in Evanston, I was not sure if we would be able to fish. I thought if we were lucky, we would get a couple of hours in tops. when we arrived at 6am, it did not look too good. the sky was dark with clouds. We decided to risk it and it was a good gamble. No thunderstorms ever came, just some rain. and we did pretty good

Things started out pretty slow, but we got a decent king on a green dodger and a couple of shakers.

a little bit later a steelhead paid me a visit.

we then caught several small kings.
It was my turn again to get the next fish when a rod bucked and the drag screamed. The fish kept going and going. after a while, we had to consider circling back and chasing the fish because it was taking so much line. it got tired and stopped. I gained some line on it before it got really mad again and went on another run. after a while, my arms started to burn from fighting the fish. the fish was still way out there. it kept running every time after I gained a bunch of line on it. it jumped and it was finally coming in closer. the fish's runs only took out about 5-10 feet of line instead of the blistering runs it made earlier. the fish got closer to the surface and its tail hung out of the water partially. it kind of looked like a shark's dorsal fin. it jumped again and we could see it was a big king.

the fish saw the boat and decided to run again. as it got closer and closer to the boat, it would roll on the surface and we could see its angry head shakes. almost gave me a heart attack, i thought it was going to get off. it didnt. it was landed and it was massive.

another shot of the monster

normally I am good at holding out the fish farther to make it look bigger. I could not extend my arms as much because my arms were tired and the fish was heavy. we weighed it, and it punched in at 24 pounds. my biggest fish ever.

we caught a couple more kings and then went in. we lost a few as well.
here is my dad with his two 10lbers

and the final haul twelve overall

the big one is not in that picture because it is going on the wall and we wanted to preserve it.

baits: spoons were the ticket
depth: 35-45 FOW
conditions: foggy, rainy and cool. later it was warm and clear
fishing time: one the water at 6:30 am off at 12:30 pm

Does any one know of any good Taxidermists in the area?

TOOONA!

Most excellent fish, she will look great on the wall!

When you get length/girth measurements, please let us know. The dimensions on a fish like that are staggering. Shocked
