Fishin’ Back East with Jim Gronaw
Meet the East Coast Multi-Species Angler, Jim Gronaw
Jim Gronaw, a nationally-published writer and In-Fisherman contributor, joins the FHQ.com Writers Network with his very own blog. Jim tells us a little bit about himself:
Hi every one! My name is Jim Gronaw. I was born in Baltimore, Maryland a long time ago and have lived in the rolling countryside region of central Maryland my entire life. I have lived at the home I built for 33 years and have been blessed with a wonderful wife and son as well as a long and enjoyable lifetime of angling.
Growing up in my area, there were always plenty of fishing opportunities. Local lakes and farmponds, millponds and tidal creeks on the Delmarva Pennisula, deep, clear reservoirs in Pennsylvania and smallmouth and trout streams galore. When everybody else in high school wanted to party and goof off, all I wanted to do was fish. I caught my first fish, a bluegill, when I was five, and I haven’t been the same since. When it comes to fishing, some kids never grow up! Chasing trophy panfish has been a lifelong passion for me.
Along the way, I managed to acquire the skill of writing about fishing. This has been a blessing and great way to meet new anglers and visit waters that I might not have had the chance to fish. Most of what I have written about over the years has been from my own fishing experiences. Once in a while, we will employ the use of a guide if we visit big waters we are not familiar. But for the most part, what you will see here is me and my family and buddies doing the same thing you guys are doing…out fishing for whatever is biting and trying to run down the hot bite.
My hopes for this blog is to bring FHQ members a little different view of what is happening in the Mid-Atlantic region on the freshwater scene. We don’t have the salmonoids, pike or musky fishing you folks have in the Great Lakes area. But we do have huge blue cats, sensational seasonal runs of shad, stripers and yellow perch and some major-league bass and panfishing. Sit back and enjoy the ride!
